The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) have signed a strategic partnership agreement aimed at fostering innovation, research, and development in Nigeria’s oil, gas, and renewable energy sectors.

The deal, signed in Abuja on Wednesday, seeks to deepen collaboration between the two institutions in technology transfer, human capital development, and deployment of cutting-edge solutions to boost energy efficiency and sustainability.

Executive Secretary of the PTDF, Dr. Bello Aliyu Gusau, said the partnership was part of the agency’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s energy transition agenda while enhancing local capacity in oil and gas technology.

This collaboration with NNPCL will enable us to bridge the gap between research and commercial application, ensuring that Nigeria remains competitive in the evolving global energy market,” Gusau stated.

Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, Mele Kyari, described the agreement as a milestone in driving Nigeria’s energy future, noting that it aligns with the company’s vision of becoming a fully integrated energy player.

Innovation is the engine of progress. By combining PTDF’s expertise in training and research with our operational reach, we can accelerate the development of solutions that not only optimise oil and gas production but also position Nigeria as a leader in renewable energy deployment,” Kyari said.

The partnership will focus on joint research projects, pilot initiatives in renewable energy, funding of technology incubation hubs, and training programmes for Nigerian engineers and scientists.

Industry analysts say the collaboration could boost local content, reduce dependence on foreign technology, and open new frontiers for investment in Nigeria’s energy sector.

The signing ceremony was attended by top officials from both organisations, representatives of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, and key stakeholders from the private sector.
