The Governing Council of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka has announced the appointment of Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Anyaehie as the 8th substantive Vice Chancellor of the university.
A statement signed by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University’s Governing Council, Barr. Monsur Olugbenga Kokoyi, reports that Prof. Anyaehie emerged from a competitive and thorough recruitment process.
A distinguished professor of Medicine, Prof Anyaehie, brings to the job extensive leadership experience and record in the academia, research and university administration. He has served as a member of governing council of two universities, as well as a permanent member of University of Nigeria Nsukka Senate for over a decade.
With a distinguished career in the academia, he served severally as Head of department, Director of Research and Publications, and was the immediate past Deputy Provost of the UNN College of Medicine as well as external examiner for many medical schools including the prestigious West African Postgraduate Medical College. To his credit, the new Vice Chancellor has supervised over forty post graduate students with four of his Supervisees now full professors.
An indigene of Nkwerre, Imo State and pioneer Provost, College of Medicine at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Anyaehie has also had a veritable level of exposure as Visiting Scholar at Medical University, Graz, Austria and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium.
With the well enriched professional pedigree, and a commitment to advancing excellence in scholarship and community engagement, Prof. Anyaehie is expected to lead NAU, Awka in achieving the institution’s strategic goals as well as reinforcing the university’s reputation as a centre of research and innovation.
