Prince Al‑Waleed bin Khalid Al‑Saud, widely known as Saudi Arabia’s “Sleeping Prince,” has died at the age of 36 more than two decades after falling into a coma. He slipped into a vegetative state following a severe car accident in London in 2005, when he was just 15, suffering extensive brain hemorrhaging and internal injuries.
His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al‑Saud, confirmed the death on social media, writing that with “hearts full of faith in Allah’s decree and destiny, and with profound sadness and sorrow,” the family mourns his passing. Al‑Waleed remained in a Riyadh hospital under continuous life support at King Abdulaziz Medical City, where occasional finger movements over the years offered brief hope of a recovery that ultimately never came.
Funeral prayers were held on July 20, 2025, with separate services for men and women in Riyadh’s Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque and King Faisal Specialist Hospital, respectively.
