Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has firmly denied reports claiming he built a luxury mansion within two years of his appointment, labeling the allegations as false and malicious. The denial addresses a viral video and related claims by Sahara Reporters suggesting his lavish lifestyle, including the construction of a new mansion, was funded through corrupt means during his tenure. In a statement by his media aide, Mr. Femi Awogboro, Adelabu clarified that the construction began in November 2021 and was completed in August 2023, before his appointment as Minister of Power in September 2023. He provided evidence including dated photographs, building approvals, and correspondence, asserting the property is a redevelopment of a house he originally built and unveiled in 2010 while working in banking and finance. Adelabu, a known investor in real estate and agriculture, accused the report of being a deliberate attempt to discredit him and President Bola Tinubu’s administration, threatening legal action if Sahara Reporters does not retract the story. The minister noted public attention grew after a video of him hosting Fuji musician Wasiu Alabi Pasuma went viral, but he only moved into the redeveloped property this year due to work commitments.
