Senator Ned Nwoko (APC–Delta North) has called for greater inclusivity and transparency in Nigeria’s political space, stressing that politics should serve as an open table for all citizens rather than a private gathering of a select few.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday, Nwoko emphasized that the collective desire to make Nigeria great should be the foremost priority of every political leader, irrespective of party affiliation.
“Politics should not be a closed club where only a few make decisions that affect millions,” the senator said. “It should be an open table where every Nigerian has a voice and a stake in shaping the future of our country. The willingness to make Nigeria great must rise above personal ambition or partisan interest.”
Nwoko, who represents Delta North Senatorial District, said the time had come for Nigeria’s political class to embrace fresh ideas and innovative thinking in addressing the country’s challenges. He urged leaders at all levels to “think outside the box” and adopt practical solutions that improve governance and the welfare of citizens.
According to him, inclusive governance and collaboration among leaders would help to rebuild public trust and strengthen democratic institutions.
“Leadership today demands creativity, empathy, and commitment to the people,” he added. “If we continue to recycle old ideas and self-serving politics, we will keep getting the same results. Our focus should be on the common good, not on personal gain.”
Nwoko reiterated his belief that Nigeria possesses the human and material resources needed to achieve greatness, provided that leaders demonstrate sincerity of purpose and work together beyond party lines.
He urged youths to stay engaged in the political process, describing them as the “custodians of the nation’s destiny,” and called for policies that empower them to participate meaningfully in governance.
“The strength of Nigeria lies in its people — diverse, creative, and resilient. When we open the table to everyone, we unleash the potential that can transform this nation,” Nwoko said.
