Kano State Police Command yesterday (Tuesday, December 10) announced the arrest of a currency syndicate with the sum of N129.5 billion worth of fake currencies.
The syndicate comprising Muhammed Muktar, 35, Nura Ibrahim, 26, and Muhammed Abdullahi, 30, were paraded before the press at the Bompai Police headquarters in the State.
Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa who briefed the press on behalf of his Commissioner, Salman Dogo Garba, said the recovered fake currencies consisted of $3,366,000, CFA51,970,000 and N1.4 million.
The police announced the arrest of other suspects for various offences, among whom were eight armed robbers, 10 cattle rustlers, three kidnappers and four drug dealers.
He disclosed that those rescued by the police within the space of two weeks included one kidnap victim, one abduction victim and 10 human trafficking victims
Suspects nabbed by the police in the state included six tricycle thieves, four motorcycle thieves, four fraudsters and 22 thugs (Yan Daba), he added.
Items recovered included ammunitions, three tricycles, eight motorcycles, three parcels and 175 wraps of Indian Hemp, 250 pieces of Diazepam tablets, 278 sheep and seven cattle, five necklaces and five earrings, 10 SIM cards and 15 ATM cards.
The police spokesman stressed that the arrests were as a result of a “multifaceted approach“ adopted to make the State safer and more secure.
“Businesses are thriving, residents are feeling safer in their homes, and the general sense of security and well-being has been greatly enhanced,” he said while pledging to strengthen partnership with other security agencies and the community to ensure a safer state.
