Police smash Chadian terror group allegedly plotting to establish base in Kano, recover IEDs

The police in Kano have smashed a suspected Chad-based terror group believed to be plotting to set up a base in the State.

Kano State Police Commissioner, Salman Dogo Garba, who disclosed this development at a press conference on Friday – today, January 31 – at the Bompai headquarters of the Command, Kano, explained that acting on intelligence reports, they followed the trail of one Ahmed Adam Abba, a Chadian, who was identified to be plotting an attack as well as planning to set up a terrorist base in the state.

Garba,  however, disclosed that the suspected leader of the syndicate, who was wanted in Chad for masterminding the killing of 17 people, escaped to Cameroon.

However, the police have apprehended three of his associates, including his wife, a 42-year old Chadian national named Jilbrin Mohammed and a Nigerian collaborator, according to Garba, who added that the police are on the trail of the gang members and are making progress.

Additionally, the police recovered a number of Improvised Explosive Devices ( IEDs), which would have been used for operation, although investigations into the nature and scope of the terrorist plot on the state are still in progress.

The Commissioner explained that already some top detectives from Chad led by the Police Commissioner of N’djamena, Mohammat D Ali have arrived in the State and have since corroborated the fact that the leader of the gang is a dangerous terrorist.

Garba assured that the Command has made significant progress in its  efforts to dismantle these networks and neutralize any potential risks in the state.

“In addition to the aforementioned arrests, we have ramped up our intelligence-gathering efforts across various places,” he said.

“Our teams are collaborating closely with other intelligence agencies and the communities to ensure that we are working hand-in-hand to identify any suspicious activities and individuals who may pose a security threat to our society.”

President of Chadian nationals in Kano State, Ahmad Mustapha, in his account to the press, narrated how members of the gang had approached his office to secure identity cards for Chadians living in the State for their members.

Mustapha revealed that he began to suspect their applications when they failed to support their forms with credible answers, a situation he noted forced him to halt the process of the issuance of the identity cards to the group members until further notice.
