The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, has launched disciplinary proceedings against one of its personnel, Inspector Kalu, following allegations of extortion and human rights violations.
The development comes after a petition circulated on social media accused the officer of misconduct. Acting on the report, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of FCID Annex, AIG Margaret Ochalla, directed the CP X-Squad to investigate the matter, leading to the arrest of both the officer and a Point of Sale (POS) agent allegedly linked to the incident.
During interrogation, Inspector Kalu admitted that the petitioner had earlier been arrested after concerned residents accused him of terrorizing the community.
The petitioner also confessed to involvement in identity theft, providing evidence to support the claim, before being granted bail pending further investigation.
The POS agent, in her statement, revealed that the complainant had initially collected ₦4 million in cash from her but later returned and left the money without explanation. The police have since recovered the full amount and returned it to the petitioner.
Meanwhile, Inspector Kalu is undergoing an Orderly Room Trial to determine his culpability, as the Force reaffirms its stance against corruption and professional misconduct.
“The FCID Annex, Lagos, remains committed to professionalism, transparency and accountability. We encourage members of the public to report any misconduct through appropriate complaint channels,” AIG Ochalla stated.
Police authorities assured that the outcome of the disciplinary process will be made public in line with the Force’s commitment to justice delivery.
