Youths in Nkpolu community, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, publicly flogged a serving police officer, Inspector Joshua Nyian, and two other men on August 24, 2025, for alleged hard drug use, as part of their “No to Drug Abuse” campaign. The incident, captured in a viral video, showed the trio forced to chant anti-drug slogans after being apprehended at a suspected drug hideout during a patrol led by Youth President Owhonda Chamberlain. Chamberlain explained that the community’s resolve stems from the devastating impact of drug abuse, with many residents losing homes and properties to fund addictions.

The police officer, attached to Woji Division, reportedly showed his service ID but did not dispute the allegations. The Rivers State Police Command, through spokesperson SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed Nyian filed a complaint, alleging assault and theft of ₦78,000, his phone, and ID card by Chamberlain and about 20 youths while he was visiting his pregnant girlfriend. The command is investigating, with Nyian claiming the accusations were baseless.
