Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have killed a suspected armed robber during a midnight exchange of gunfire in the Ota axis of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, while his accomplices escaped into the dark with suspected gunshot wounds.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:45 AM on Sunday, November 1, 2026, in the Ijaba community of Iyesi, Ota, following a distress call raised by a resident regarding an ongoing robbery operation.
Upon receiving the alert, police officers attached to the Onipanu Divisional Police Headquarters under the Ota Area Command quickly deployed to the scene. On sighting the approaching law enforcement team, the armed gang opened fire, prompting operatives to engage them in a tactical response.
In the ensuing gun duel, one member of the robbery gang was fatally wounded and neutralised, while his accomplices fled the area into nearby bushes. Confirming the operation in an official statement, the Ogun State Police Command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, detailed the extent of the law enforcement response and the items retrieved from the scene.
According to Babaseyi, police officers successfully recovered two vehicles suspected to have been stolen by the gang, alongside two pistols, including a locally made firearm. In addition to the vehicles and weapons, operatives retrieved several stolen items, including mobile phones, television sets, and laptops left behind by the fleeing suspects.
Babaseyi emphasized that investigations remain ongoing to verify ownership of the recovered vehicles, track down the fleeing gang members, and establish links to past criminal activity within the state.
The command reiterated its appeal for residents to maintain vigilance and continue partnering with law enforcement by providing timely, credible information.
