Police foil robbery attempt, urges citizens to be vigilant – Hundeyin

The Commissioner of Police has called on everyone to remain vigilant and continue to support law enforcement efforts by   reporting promptly suspicious activities of thieves to the nearest police station

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, made the call in a statement on Thursday in Lagos after operatives of the police command foiled a robbery attempt on a tricyclist on Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Ikeja.

He said that the operatives of the Alausa Division, who were on a surveillance patrol, foiled the robbery attempt.

According to the statement, the police spotted a tricycle operator being forcefully dragged by three assailants attempting to dispossess him of his tricycle.

Hundeyin said, upon noticing an approaching police patrol van, the criminals took to their heels, adding that the officers, determined to prevent further harm, pursued the suspects.

He explained further that the suspects, who managed to escape the scene, abandoned a black bag in the process.

“A thorough search of the bag led to recovery of one Beretta pistol, one live ammunition, one cutlass, one knife and assorted charms, ” he said.

The image maker noted that intensive efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects and bring them to justice.

Hundeyin said that the tricyclist sustained machete injuries on the head and other parts of his body and was  rushed to the Lagos State Emergency Center by the police team.

The spokesperson said that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, commended the officers for responsponding quickly to the issue.
