The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has directed all political parties, support groups, and socio-political associations operating in the state to formally notify and obtain approval from the command prior to conducting rallies, campaigns, processions, or other public gatherings.
The directive was issued in an official statement released in Uyo on Monday, August 31, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John.
According to the command, the decision aims to prevent potential clashes, maintain public order, and ensure political activities adhere strictly to legal guidelines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The police command emphasized that public activities scheduled across major venues in the state capital, such as the Ibom Hall Grounds, the Plaza Centre, and the Unity Park along Udo Udoma Avenue in Uyo must be formally declared with precise timelines.
Organizers are expected to submit written notifications detailing event times, locations, and projected crowd sizes to the office of the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, well ahead of the scheduled dates.
Addressing the public, DSP Timfon John reiterated that unauthorized gatherings or those organized outside approved regulatory parameters will face swift intervention from law enforcement agencies.
“The command will not tolerate any actions capable of threatening public peace and security in Akwa Ibom State. Organizers are urged to cease planning any public activity until proper clearance is obtained. Any group or individual found disobeying these directives will face legal consequences, including arrest and prosecution,” DSP John warned.
The command assured residents of its ongoing commitment to protecting lives and property while facilitating a peaceful environment for lawful civic engagement.
