The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the death of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Okuta Elerinla Division, Akure.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday. She said the officer, whose name was withheld pending formal communication to his family, died on Tuesday after a brief illness.
According to Odunlami-Omisanya, the DPO was rushed to the hospital after complaining of sudden discomfort while on duty but was pronounced dead by doctors.
She described the late officer as a dedicated and disciplined professional who served the command with commitment until his last moments.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Abayomi Oladipo, on behalf of the command, commiserates with the family, friends, and colleagues of the late DPO. We pray for the repose of his soul and the fortitude for his loved ones to bear the loss,” the statement read in part.
The police spokesperson noted that funeral arrangements would be announced by the family in conjunction with the command, adding that all necessary protocols were being observed.
The death has thrown the Okuta Elerinla Division and the Akure police community into mourning, with colleagues and residents describing the officer as a peace-loving leader who maintained strong community relations.
