The Police in Borno and community members have agreed to improve channels of communication to step up efforts in tackling crimes in the state.
Speaking at a town hall meeting of the Nigerian Police Borno State Command and community members in Maiduguri on Wednesday -earlier today, April 3 –Â Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Yusufu, said smooth and frequent communication between the police and communities will boost collaboration and lead to effective policing against crimes.
“These crimes don’t happen by chance. They are not committed by the spirit. The perpetrators are members of the communities. This is why we need to improve on our communications to tackle crimes in the state,” the CP said.
He said the town hall meeting was organised as part of the activities lined up for the National Police Week, explaining that the meeting is to review the performances of the police in combating crimes in the state and identified areas of improvement.
He said April 7 of every year has been set aside as the National Police Day.
“This day is to raise awareness against crimes, vandalism, gender-based crimes, armed robbery, cyber crimes,” he said.
He said the activities for the National Police week will include sanitation exercise, physical exercise, medical outreach and a safe school programme.
Head of the Women Wing of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Hajiya Katum Jaffa harped on police and community regular engagement. She commended the police for the improvement in crime control in the state.
