Former presidential candidate of the Labour party, Peter Obi on Tuesday, paid a courtesy visit to former Governor of old Anambra State, Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo in his ancestral home.
Sen. Ben Obi, a prominent figure in South East politics, led the delegation, stating that they were not there to discuss politics, but to show respect to their leader and father. He noted that the visit was an annual ritual, and they would brief Nwobodo on the issue of Nike Lake declaration and Peter Obi’s move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Nwobodo, who expressed gratitude for the visit, said he felt great and thanked God for the mark of respect. He emphasized the importance of respecting elders and noted that he was no longer just a politician, but an elder statesman.
Nwobodo praised Peter Obi, saying he was a respectable and acceptable candidate, and that he had always believed that an Igbo man should be president of Nigeria.
He referenced the late Zik of Africa, saying he would be angry in his grave that the country’s aspirations had not been met.
Peter Obi said they were there strictly to wish Nwobodo a happy New Year and that they would return to discuss politics and the way forward. He thanked Nwobodo for hosting them and prayed for God’s blessings on him.
The visit was a show of respect and solidarity, with Nwobodo praying for God’s intervention in Nigeria’s affairs. He expressed hope that one day, an Igbo man would become president of Nigeria.
The delegation’s visit was met with a warm reception, with Nwobodo hosting them to a lunch.
The visit has sparked interest in the political circles, with many interpreting it as a sign of Peter Obi’s growing influence in the South East.
Former governors Sam Egwu, Okwesilieze Nwodo accompanied Peter Obi.
