The Obidient Movement has issued a firm and comprehensive press statement restating its unwavering commitment to the presidential aspiration of Mr Peter Obi, describing his quest for office as a joint project of all Nigerians and distancing the Movement from what it termed deliberate misrepresentations and malicious propaganda surrounding a recent interview by its National Coordinator, Dr Tanko Yunusa.
In the statement dated January 3, 2026, the Movement said it was compelled to clarify its position following distortions that have trailed the interview, stressing the need for a clear and authoritative restatement of its ideals, purpose, and political direction.
The Obidient Movement described itself as an organic, nationwide, and values-driven democratic movement anchored on the principles of good governance, accountability, and the rule of law. It emphasized that its singular purpose remains the emergence of the right leadership for Nigeria through lawful and democratic means.
According to the statement, the ideals, energy, and collective resolve of the Obidient Movement are unequivocally committed to the presidential aspiration of Mr Peter Obi. It explained that the Movement reserves the right to join any political party of its choice, provided such a platform aligns with the person, principles, and leadership vision of Mr Peter Obi.
The Movement stated that its support for Mr Obi is driven by a firm conviction that he stands out among all frontline contenders for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It cited his competence, integrity, compassion, vision, discipline, economic expertise, democratic credentials, international credibility, and consistent record of prudent leadership as the basis for this belief.
It further expressed confidence that this conviction is shared by a clear majority of Nigerians across all geo-political zones, generations, and political persuasions.
The statement made it clear, without ambiguity, that the Obidient Movement is not mobilised to support Mr Peter Obi as a vice-presidential candidate to anyone, stressing that its support is exclusively for his emergence as President of Nigeria.
On current political arrangements, the Movement disclosed that it is presently supporting Mr Obi within the platform of the African Democratic Congress in the contest for its presidential candidacy. It assured that if the process is transparent, credible, and fair, the Movement will abide by its outcome. However, it warned that should the process be compromised, the Obidient Movement would take a united, lawful, and democratic decision consistent with its core principles.
The statement further declared that wherever Mr Peter Obi, acting within the law and guided by conscience, chooses to pursue his presidential mandate, the Obidient Movement will move with him. It emphasized that its loyalty lies with his leadership vision and Nigeria’s national redemption, not with political convenience or compromised platforms.
While reaffirming its commitment to peaceful and democratic strategies, the Movement stated that it would never compromise its principles or its demand for credible leadership for the sake of expediency.
Reflecting on its journey, the Obidient Movement said it has endured sacrifice, resistance, and misrepresentation due to a sincere and selfless belief in a better Nigeria. It declared that it would not be distracted, intimidated, or manipulated by misinformation, media mercenaries, or partisan hatchet jobs.
The statement concluded with a strong reaffirmation of the Movement’s commitment to the realization of a Peter Obi Presidency, describing it as the surest path to national renewal, economic recovery, and accountable governance. As the nation approaches what it described as a defining moment, the Movement called on all Nigerians to remain resolute, united, and focused, expressing confidence that together, the country can secure the good leadership it urgently requires.
The statement ended with the declaration that a new Nigeria is POssible.
