Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has expressed heartfelt appreciation to Nigerians and well-wishers across the world for their kind birthday wishes, while reiterating his longstanding decision not to personally celebrate birthdays.

In a message posted on X, Obi thanked Nigerian youths, members of the Obidient movement, and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul for their acts of kindness and solidarity. He recounted how, during his 50th birthday as governor, he declined an extravagant ₦20 million party proposal and instead requested the funds be used to purchase 200 desktop computers, which were distributed to schools to enhance learning. He also recalled how an organisation redirected a planned celebration into bus donations for institutions, including one for the Old Rangers Association.

Obi said his 64th birthday, which coincided with a visit to the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels and the Martyrs in Rome, offered him another moment of reflection and prayer. While grateful for the love shown, he called on those wishing to honour him to support the poor or strengthen educational and health institutions instead.

He concluded his message with prayers for Nigeria and a plea for leaders to prioritise the public good, saying, “May we all find strength and grace to keep striving for a more just, compassionate, and equitable society.”
