The Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has called on the Federal Government to ensure full transparency and accountability in ongoing reforms of Nigeria’s tax system, following reports of a tax cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Nigeria and France.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Obi emphasized that while international collaboration is not inherently problematic, agreements concerning tax administration, revenue systems, and data management must be conducted openly. He noted that such arrangements have a direct impact on public trust and the perception of government accountability.

Obi urged the government to provide clear information to Nigerians regarding the MoU, stressing that transparency is essential to avoid misunderstandings and build confidence in fiscal reforms.

The presidential hopeful’s remarks highlight growing public interest in how international agreements intersect with domestic governance and revenue management in Nigeria.
