PDP suspends local govt election campaign over Akwa Ibom’s First Lady’s death

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has suspended all its campaigns for the forthcoming local government election in the state, as a result of the sudden death of Mrs Patience Umo Eno, the Governor’s wife.

A release signed by the State publicity secretary of the party, Edwin Ebiese, announced the suspension of its local government campaigns, expressing the party’s “profound sadness and deep sense of loss over the demise of the First Lady.”

According to the PDP, “this devastating news has left our party, and indeed the entire Akwa Ibom State in a state of mourning.”

“As we struggle to come to terms with this immense loss, we are compelled to pause our campaign as a mark of respect for the departed First Lady,” the release said.

The party expressed regrets for any inconvenience the suspension may cause but craved the understanding of its “members and the general public during this difficult  time”.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to His Excellency, Pastor Umo, the Executive of Akwa Ibom State, and his immediate family, the government and people of Akwa Ibom State.

“May God grant the family of tge deceased and our state the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” the release stressed.

Mrs.  Umo Eno, a Pastor, like her husband died yesterday, September,  26, 2024, in an undisclosed hospital, “in the presence of her family members.”

A government press release issued by the state commissioner for Information,  Mr. Ini Ememobong, said: “The family submits to the will of the Almighty and asks for the prayers and support of kind-hearted individuals during this difficult time.”

“Further details will be provided by the family as necessary. In the meantime, the family kindly requests prayers as they mourn their beloved wife, mother and grandmother.

“His Excellency, the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno appreciates all who have stood by the 1st family in this period and assures all the citizens that despite this huge personal loss, his commitment to the service of the state is unwavering,” the state government release added.
