The Peoples Democratic Party has described its victory in one of the six Area Council chairmanship seats in the Federal Capital Territory as proof of its standing as Nigeria’s credible and viable alternative political platform.

In its first formal response following Saturday’s elections, the party’s National Caretaker Working Committee said the outcome demonstrated the PDP’s enduring political relevance and grassroots strength.

The committee highlighted the victory of Hon. Mohammed Kasim in Gwagwalada Area Council, along with the success of several PDP councillorship candidates and what it termed a strong showing by other party flagbearers across the councils.

In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, the PDP called for unity among its members and supporters, urging them to remain steadfast and committed to rebuilding and strengthening the party.

The statement also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Nigeria Police for ensuring a largely smooth electoral process in the FCT.

While acknowledging the efforts of the electoral umpire and security agencies, the PDP urged both institutions to address identified gaps in future polls to further enhance transparency, credibility and public confidence in the democratic process.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to providing what it described as responsible leadership and a people-focused alternative in Nigeria’s political landscape.
