The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has criticised Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq’s response to the recent bandit attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area, describing it as cosmetic and lacking concrete reassurance for the affected residents.
In a statement issued in Ilorin on Wednesday, the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, faulted the governor’s reaction to the incident, which reportedly claimed the lives of at least 10 residents.
Adewara said the governor’s comments following the attack failed to address the gravity of the situation or provide a clear plan to prevent further assaults on rural communities in the state.
The assailants struck Woro and Nuku communities late on Tuesday night, killing several residents and setting houses ablaze. The attack also forced many villagers to flee their homes in fear of further violence.
The PDP spokesman expressed concern over what he described as a recurring pattern of insecurity in parts of Kwara State, particularly border communities vulnerable to attacks by bandits and other criminal elements.
He called on the state government to move beyond what he termed “mere rhetoric” and take decisive steps, including strengthening security presence in affected areas and providing adequate support for victims of the attack.
The party also urged security agencies to intensify efforts to track down and apprehend those responsible for the killings, while appealing to the government to prioritise the safety of residents and restore confidence in the state’s security architecture.
