Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has denied any involvement in the ongoing leadership crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In an interview on Sunday, Atiku’s Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shuaibu, clarified that Atiku has no role in the conflicts affecting the party, which has been marked by a series of suspensions and counter-suspensions.
These issues have drawn interventions from the PDP Governors’ Forum, Board of Trustees, and National Reconciliation Committee.
Shuaibu described any claims linking Atiku to the crisis as “bizarre” and “extremely far-fetched.”
He emphasized that Atiku is committed to due process and focused on strengthening the PDP, distancing himself from any actions that might destabilize the party.
“It is extremely far-fetched and unfair to suggest that Atiku is connected to any group or individual planning to engage lawyers or challenge Justice Peter Lifu’s ruling,” Shuaibu added.
The crisis is believed to stem from longstanding tensions between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Atiku.
Notably, neither was invited to a recent PDP stakeholders’ meeting, which PDP Governors Forum Chairman Bala Mohammed described as a gathering of “all of PDP” stakeholders.
