Fans, well-wishers and colleagues in the Nigerian film industry have celebrated veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwo, popularly known as Mama G, as she marks her 68th birthday. The actress received messages of goodwill and prayers for good health, strength and fulfilment as she marked the milestone on Sunday.
Ozokwo had earlier taken to her verified Instagram page to express gratitude to God for life, good health and sound mind. She also thanked her fans, whom she affectionately referred to as “Mama G Lovers”, for their continued love and support, praying for blessings and prosperity for them and their families.
Following the post, several fans and industry colleagues flooded social media with birthday messages celebrating the actress’ impact on Nollywood. Among those who sent messages were actors Sophie Alakija, Ebelle Okaro, Benson Okonkwo and Harry B Anyanwu, who praised Ozokwo’s career, described her as a mother figure and wished her many more years of grace and blessings.
Born on September 14, 1958, in Ngwo, Enugu State, Ozokwo studied Fine and Applied Arts at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu. She began her career as an announcer and broadcaster with Radio Nigeria before moving into television and film, gaining prominence after featuring in the 1999 movie Authority.
The actress, who is also a gospel singer and ordained evangelist, has appeared in more than 100 films over a career spanning several decades. Her memorable portrayals of strong and often villainous characters earned her the nickname Mama G, while her contributions to Nollywood have attracted several honours, including the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2012 and 2013, and the Industry Merit Award at the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards. She also featured in Chief Daddy (2018) and Chief Daddy 2: Going for Broke (2022) as Madam Pat.
