Passenger dies following medical emergency on Kenya Airways Flight to Lagos

A passenger aboard a Kenya Airways flight from Nairobi to Lagos passed away on Tuesday night after suffering a medical emergency shortly before landing, the airline confirmed in an official statement on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.

​The incident occurred aboard Kenya Airways Flight KQ 532, traveling from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) in Nairobi to Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) in Lagos. According to the carrier, cabin crew discovered that the passenger was unresponsive around 9:20 PM West Africa Time (WAT), roughly 20 minutes before the scheduled arrival.

​Cabin crew members immediately initiated in-flight first aid and emergency procedures in line with standard international aviation protocols. Ground handlers and airport emergency medical teams were alerted and put on standby prior to arrival.

​The aircraft landed safely at Murtala Muhammed International Airport at 9:41 PM WAT. Medical personnel immediately boarded the aircraft to administer advanced life support. However, following a medical evaluation, the response team officially pronounced the passenger dead at the scene.

​In a public statement released on Wednesday morning, Kenya Airways PLC offered condolences to the passenger’s family and confirmed that local authorities and relevant diplomatic entities had been notified to assist with necessary procedures.

​”Kenya Airways PLC confirms that on Tuesday, 06 October 2026, our flight from Nairobi to Lagos experienced a medical emergency on board at around 21:20 hrs local Nigerian time,” the airline stated in its official release. “Upon landing in Lagos at 21:41 hrs, emergency medical services were on hand to assist.

Regrettably, following further examination, the medical personnel confirmed that the passenger had passed away. We extend our deepest sympathies and sincere condolences to the family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

​The airline has not yet released the identity or nationality of the deceased passenger, pending notification of next of kin. Local aviation authorities in Lagos, alongside relevant law enforcement, have commenced standard post-incident documentation.
