Paris 2024: Anyanacho’s loss to Chinese opponent ends Nigeria’s quest for medal in taekwondo

Elizabeth Anyanacho, Nigeria’s lone competitor in the taekwondo competition of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, this morning  (today, Friday, August 9) crashed out in the opening bout of her event.

Anyanacho who was in the women’s -67 kilogramme category lost 0-2 in the round of 16 fight to Song Jie of China at the Grand Palais.

Both fighters were level at 3-3 in the bout’s opening round.

Song, however, tore away from Anyanacho with a score of 8-2 in the second round to win the pairing and advance to the quarter-finals.

Anyanacho’s loss means that Team Nigeria’s hopes of a medal from the sport have again ended.

The fighter is being managed by 2008 Games bronze medalist China Chukwumerije.(NAN)
