A 17-year-old student from Yobe State, Nafisa Abdullah Aminu, has clinched the top prize in English language skills at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London, outshining over 20,000 participants from 69 countries.
Representing Nigeria through the Nigerian Tulip International College, her victory has drawn widespread praise, with former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami, urging the government to honor her with a $100,000 reward, a flat, and the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) title. Pantami’s call, shared via a post on X on August 5, 2025, emphasized Nafisa’s achievement as a testament to Nigeria’s academic potential, citing her dedication and the enabling environment provided by Yobe State’s educational reforms.
The TeenEagle competition, renowned for its rigorous assessment of English proficiency, critical thinking, and communication skills, saw Nafisa surpass competitors from native English-speaking nations, a feat her family attributes to her hard work and the support of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration.
In a statement, Hassan Salifu, head of the Aminu family, expressed gratitude for the state’s investment in education, which they say paved the way for this global recognition.
