The Acting Governor of Oyo State, Bayo Lawal, visited affected vendors on Monday, 24 August 2026, following a destructive late-night inferno at Oranyan Market in Ibadan.
The fire, which broke out around midnight, swept through several commercial sections, destroying valuable stock, including gold, furniture, and second-hand clothing. The incident left dozens of traders destitute and disrupted major economic activities in the Ibadan North-East region.
The disaster unfolded rapidly as flames engulfed multiple locked-up shops before emergency services could fully contain the blaze.
Firefighters from the Oyo State Fire Service, working alongside local security agencies, eventually managed to extinguish the inferno and prevent it from spreading to adjoining properties.
