A Nigerian-born lawyer and politician, Owolabi Salis, has made history as the first Nigerian to travel to space. Salis was among six passengers aboard Blue Origin’s NS-33 mission, which successfully launched from West Texas on Sunday, marking another milestone in private space exploration.
The suborbital flight, operated by Jeff Bezos’ aerospace company Blue Origin, carried its civilian crew to the edge of space where they experienced a few minutes of weightlessness before returning safely to Earth. Salis, a U.S.-based chartered accountant and philanthropist, joins the growing list of private individuals making history through commercial space tourism.
