The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that its newly reactivated Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) online portal attracted more than 26,000 visits within the first 24 hours of its launch.
INEC disclosed this in a statement on Monday by its National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun. According to him, the high traffic on the portal reflects the eagerness of Nigerians, particularly first-time voters, to take part in the country’s electoral process.
Olumekun explained that the CVR portal is designed to make voter registration more convenient by allowing eligible citizens to initiate the process online before completing biometric capture at designated INEC centres. He added that the system also provides opportunities for Nigerians to update personal details, transfer voting locations, or replace lost or damaged voter cards.

The commission assured the public that the portal is secure and reliable, noting that adequate safeguards have been put in place to protect registrants’ personal data and ensure the integrity of the voters’ register.
INEC also urged civil society groups, political parties, and the media to support ongoing voter education campaigns and encourage more Nigerians to take advantage of the platform ahead of future elections.
Analysts say the strong response highlights citizens’ readiness to participate in governance and the growing importance of technology in enhancing transparency and accessibility in Nigeria’s electoral system.
