Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has expressed his administration’s readiness to partner with the Governor of Delaware, United States, Bethany Hall-Long, in strategic areas of the economy aimed at driving sustainable growth and development.
The governor made this known while receiving a delegation from the Office of the Delaware Governor at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, on Friday.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ukoha Njoku.
According to the statement, Governor Otti said Abia State was open to mutually beneficial collaborations that would promote economic expansion, technology transfer, capacity building and investment opportunities. He noted that his administration was focused on rebuilding the state’s economy through transparent governance, private sector participation and global partnerships.
Governor Otti highlighted areas such as manufacturing, agriculture, education, healthcare, innovation and human capital development as key sectors where Abia could leverage international cooperation to achieve rapid progress. He added that partnerships with developed economies like the United States would help expose local businesses and institutions to global best practices.
The Abia governor assured the Delaware delegation of a conducive business environment, stressing that his government was committed to reforms that encourage foreign direct investment and protect investors’ interests.
In their response, the Delaware delegation conveyed Governor Bethany Hall-Long’s interest in strengthening subnational cooperation between both states.
They expressed optimism that the proposed partnership would foster economic exchange, skills development and long-term institutional collaboration.
The delegation commended Abia State’s reform agenda and pledged to explore concrete frameworks that would translate the discussions into actionable projects.
The meeting marked another step in Abia State’s efforts to attract international partnerships as part of its broader strategy to reposition the state for inclusive growth and global competitiveness.
