Candidates of the Accord Party contesting for National and State Assembly seats in Osun State have appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently intervene over alleged police harassment, intimidation, and unlawful persecution of their members ahead of the upcoming August 15 election.
​Speaking at a joint press conference on Monday in Osogbo, the state capital, representatives of the candidates claimed that security personnel have targeted party leaders across several local government areas, including Osogbo, Ede, and Ilesa, creating an atmosphere of fear among supporters.
The candidates urged President Tinubu and the Inspector General of Police to order an immediate probe into security operations in the state and ensure neutrality ahead of the polls.
Accord leaders accused local police divisions of executing arbitrary arrests of opposition figures, citing the recent shooting incident involving Asimiyu Ajibola, the party’s Osogbo Local Government chairman, as evidence of escalating political violence.
The Osun State Police Command has dismissed claims of partisan bias, maintaining that recent detentions and investigations are strictly evidence-based and aimed at maintaining public order ahead of August 15.
​The candidates warned that unless federal authorities step in to guarantee a level playing field, the persistent harassment risks disrupting the democratic process and disenfranchising voters across Osun State.
