A pressure group within the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, known as the Reset Group of Osun PDP, has raised alarm over what it described as a worsening internal crisis threatening the stability of the party in the state.
The group has therefore appealed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the party’s caretaker national leadership to urgently intervene to prevent what it called the possible collapse of the party’s structure in Osun.
The appeal was contained in a letter jointly signed by the President and Secretary of the group, Akinwale Oyetunde and Adeyeye Olugbenga, respectively. The letter was addressed to the Chairman of the party’s National Caretaker Committee, Abdulrahaman Mohammed, as well as Wike.
A copy of the correspondence was obtained by journalists in Osogbo on Friday.
In the letter, the Reset Group expressed deep concern over what it described as the deteriorating condition of the party in the state, accusing the current Osun PDP leadership of actions that were allegedly weakening the party’s structure and discouraging members.
Specifically, the group pointed fingers at the state leadership of the party under Sunday Bisi, claiming that its handling of party affairs had generated dissatisfaction among members and stakeholders.
According to the group, several party loyalists and grassroots supporters were becoming increasingly frustrated with the current situation, a development it warned could push members to defect to other political platforms if urgent steps were not taken.
The Reset Group maintained that the continued internal disagreements and perceived lack of inclusive leadership were damaging the unity and cohesion of the party in the state.
It further warned that if the situation was allowed to persist, it could have serious consequences for the electoral prospects of the PDP in Osun State.
The group urged the national leadership of the party to swiftly investigate the issues raised and initiate measures that would restore confidence among members and strengthen the party’s internal structure.
In addition, the group appealed to Wike, a prominent figure within the PDP and influential political leader, to use his position and influence within the party to help mediate the crisis and ensure that the party remains united.
The letter emphasised that the intervention of the national leadership was necessary to prevent the ongoing disagreements from escalating into a deeper crisis capable of undermining the party’s fortunes in the state.
Political observers say internal disputes within party structures across various states have continued to pose challenges for major political parties in Nigeria, often resulting in factional struggles and defections.
In Osun State, analysts note that maintaining unity within party ranks will be crucial as political actors begin to position themselves ahead of future electoral contests.
As of the time of filing this report, the Osun PDP leadership had not issued an official response to the allegations raised by the Reset Group.
