International Afrobeats sensation David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has alleged that military personnel are attempting to restrict his movement into Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The award-winning artist raised the alarm early Saturday morning via a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account. Davido, who is the nephew of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Senator Ademola Adeleke, asserted his constitutional right as a Nigerian citizen to travel freely across the country.
“I’ve been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun tomorrow, this won’t happen, every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point of time,” Davido wrote.
The musician’s statement comes as security measures are heightened across Osun State, with joint security operations deployed to enforce order and prevent violence during the off-cycle gubernatorial poll.
Reacting to the allegations, military authorities and state security command spokespersons have urged the public to disregard rumors intended to provoke panic. Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, previously clarified during security briefings in Osogbo that military personnel deployed for election duties are strictly tasked with maintaining law and order, establishing external perimeter security, and supporting law enforcement without disenfranchising law-abiding citizens.
Meanwhile, the PDP Campaign Management Committee, speaking through its Director of Media and Strategy, Olawale Rasheed, condemned any perceived intimidation tactics aimed at key supporters and family members of their candidate, calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to guarantee a fair playing field.
As voters across all 30 Local Government Areas prepare to head to the polls today, tension remains high amidst tight security checkpoints mounted at key entry points into the state, including the Abere, Ikirun, and Gbongan corridors.
