A political rift has erupted within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State as Dr. Ibraheem Adekunle firmly declared that he remains the legitimate, duly nominated candidate for the Osun Central Senatorial District, dismissing claims made by Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi to the party’s ticket.
Speaking during a press conference on Friday in Osogbo, the state capital, Dr. Adekunle addressed party supporters and newsmen, reiterating that his nomination was conducted in total compliance with the PDP constitution and the provisions of the Electoral Act.
Adekunle described any parallel claims or declarations declaring Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi as the candidate as null, void, and a clear attempt to undermine the democratic mandate freely given to him by party delegates in the senatorial district.
”I remain the authentic PDP candidate for Osun Central Senatorial District,” Adekunle stated. “The primary election that produced me was legally conducted, duly monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and fully recognized by genuine party members across the ten local government areas of the district.
Any assertion to the contrary by Senator Fadeyi or his supporters is a total falsehood aimed at causing unnecessary confusion.” The disputed ticket covers key local government areas within the district, including Osogbo, Olorunda, Irepodun, Orolu, Ila, Ifedayo, Boluwaduro, Boripe, Ifelodun, and Odo Otin.
Adekunle urged the national leadership of the PDP and security agencies to intervene promptly to prevent further breach of party guidelines, while calling on his supporters across Osun Central to remain calm and steadfast as the party works through its legal and administrative channels.
