​Following thorough screening operations, the Nigeria Police Force has released 293 out of the 295 suspects arrested in connection with electoral offenses during the August 15, 2026 Osun State Governorship Election.
​The update was delivered on Monday morning, August 17, 2026, by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu, during an official security briefing at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Security personnel deployed across Osun State apprehended 295 suspects during the Saturday, August 15 governorship election. A total of 293 suspects were granted administrative bail following initial screening and interrogation.
Two suspects remain in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo, pending further investigation and formal arraignment in court.
​Addressing journalists at the press briefing on Monday morning, CSP Ani Iniedu confirmed the status of the election-related arrests;”295 suspects were arrested during the election, and 293 have been released on bail after screening. So we have two of them in custody for prosecution.” CSP Ani Iniedu disclosed.
​The arrests took place across various local government areas in Osun State during the August 15 election. Joint security teams deployed by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, monitored voting venues and intercepting individuals suspected of electoral malpractices, ballot disruption, and breach of peace.
​Police authorities emphasized that while most detainees were released after screening cleared them of major infractions, the remaining two suspects face formal charges to serve as a deterrent against electoral violence.
