The Chairman of the Accord Party in Osun State, Victor Akande, has dismissed speculations surrounding the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the August 8 election, insisting that Governor Ademola Adeleke remains its only recognised candidate.
Akande made the clarification while addressing journalists in Osogbo, stressing that the party has not presented any alternative candidate for the forthcoming poll. He described claims that one Clement Bamigbola was flying the Accord Party’s flag as baseless and misleading.
According to him, the party’s structure and leadership in the state are firmly aligned with Governor Adeleke’s re-election bid, adding that any contrary assertion was merely a distraction.
The Accord Party chairman also downplayed the chances of the All Progressives Congress and its governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, in the race. He said the APC posed no serious challenge to Adeleke’s return to office, citing what he described as the governor’s widespread acceptance among the electorate.
Akande maintained that the party was focused on consolidating its support across the state and would not be distracted by what he termed “imaginary candidatures,” reiterating that Adeleke remained the Accord Party’s sole candidate for the Osun governorship election.
