As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections, political tensions are heating up, with the opposition forming new coalitions to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership. Amidst the noise, Hon. Aderemi Oseni, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), has offered strong defense of the administration’s performance, particularly on infrastructure development and economic reforms.
In an interview, Oseni addressed the growing political coalition against President Tinubu. He argued that while opposition is a key part of any democracy, the current coalition lacks both unity and credible alternatives to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). According to him, the opposition is more focused on noise than results, unlike the APC which, as he puts it, came to power in 2015 with people-driven policies and visible alternatives.
One of the major pillars of Oseni’s argument for the president’s re-election is the bold infrastructure agenda being pursued by the Tinubu administration. Projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, and the Ibadan-Ilesha-Akure-Benin Highway were highlighted as symbols of progress. Oseni, who has visited these sites in his oversight role, described them as “massive,” “international standard,” and “job-creating.”
The lawmaker emphasized that these roads connect key regions and have the potential to significantly boost local economies. For instance, the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway will link nine states and improve access across southern Nigeria. Oseni also claimed that critics of these projects are missing the big picture, noting that while constructive criticism is welcome, opposition should provide better solutions rather than just complaints.
Despite rumors of internal divisions in the Oyo State chapter of the APC, Oseni rejected such claims, stating that what exists are mere disagreements, not deep-rooted crises. He pointed to his own efforts in mobilizing support for Tinubu through grassroots initiatives like the Remi Oseni Committee of Friends, which he claims already has over 200,000 members in 33 local government areas. According to him, such movements will play a key role in delivering votes in 2027.
Reflecting on his early support for Tinubu, Oseni traced the president’s leadership style back to his time as Lagos State governor. He credited Tinubu with laying a development foundation that successive governors have built upon. This, he said, informed his early and continued support for Tinubu’s presidential ambition.
According to Oseni, Tinubu’s administration has already started to stabilize the economy, citing improvements in the foreign exchange market, fiscal space, and debt management. He mentioned the recently passed Tax Reform Act, 2025, as another tool for strengthening Nigeria’s economy. He argued that Tinubu’s policies reflect a deep understanding of Nigeria’s economic challenges.
Hon. Aderemi Oseni’s views reflect the confidence of APC insiders as they prepare for another election battle in 2027. Whether the opposition coalition can shake that confidence remains to be seen. But what is clear is that infrastructure and economic reforms will be at the heart of the political debate in the coming years.
In the end, the electorate will have the final say not on the noise or propaganda, but on who delivers real progress.
