A newly announced Oro curfew in Ijebu Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State is already causing significant travel disruptions for commuters between Lagos and parts of the South-West, particularly those traveling overnight.
The curfew, which runs from 12:00 midnight to 4:00 a.m. daily for seven days, from Wednesday, July 30 to Tuesday, August 5, 2025, was announced by the Executive Chairman of Ijebu Ode LGA, Hon. Dare Alebiosu, in observance of traditional rites.
Although framed as a local directive, the curfew’s impact stretches far beyond Ijebu Ode. Travellers moving in and out of Lagos through the Ijebu axis, a major transit corridor for inter-state transport have been left stranded, especially those whose journeys began late in the evening or aimed to arrive in Lagos by dawn. Border communities at the edge of Ijebuland are now witnessing overnight traffic buildups, with commercial vehicles, haulage trucks, and interstate buses forced to stop short of entering affected areas.
Many passengers have expressed frustration, citing missed appointments, security concerns, and increased travel costs as they are now forced to reschedule or break journeys into two days. Transport companies are also adjusting their departure times to avoid the curfew window, leading to a temporary drop in available night services.
Residents and commuters are advised to plan their movements accordingly and avoid nighttime travel through Ijebu Ode and adjoining local government areas until the curfew is lifted. Authorities have appealed to non-indigenes and visitors to respect local customs and remain indoors during the restricted hours to avoid confrontation or legal consequences.
