Troops of Sector 2 under Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, overran a major Lakurawa terrorist enclave in Waria Forest, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, neutralising several fighters and destroying their logistics base.
​The successful offensive occurred during a targeted clearance mission designed to dismantle criminal hideouts and restrict terrorist movements across the North-West region.
​During the operation, ground forces advanced through identified terrorist transit routes spanning Alela, Bilange, and Kandam villages before making direct contact with the armed fighters deep inside Waria Forest. Upon contact, troops engaged the insurgents in a fierce firefight, using superior firepower to breach the enclave’s perimeter.
​In an official statement released on Thursday, October 15, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer for Joint Task Force North West (Operation FANSAN YAMMA), confirmed that the military forces completely overwhelmed the hostile elements, forcing the remaining insurgents to flee into the surrounding forest.
​”During the ensuing firefight, the troops overwhelmed the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee deeper into the forest,” Lt. Col. Danja said. “Troops subsequently pursued the fleeing terrorists, neutralising some of them in the process, while further exploitation of the area led to the destruction of the camps and associated life-support structures.”
The military forces recovered military-grade weapons and combat gear abandoned by fleeing fighters during the ambush. Confiscated five motorcycles used by the terror network for swift tactical maneuvers and raids across local communities.
They Completely demolished several camp structures, storage facilities, and life-support hubs utilised by the Lakurawa group.
​The Theatre Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining an aggressive operational posture, assuring residents that proactive intelligence-led patrols will continue throughout Tangaza LGA and adjacent border zones to restore long-term stability.
Military authorities also appealed to local communities to support ongoing operations by providing timely, actionable intelligence regarding suspicious movements.
