Leading fintech company OPay Digital Services has dismissed as false, malicious, and misleading a viral social media publication claiming the platform would embark on a prolonged break starting September 1, 2026, and advising customers to withdraw or transfer their funds.
The firm issued an official statement titled “This is FALSE!” via its verified digital channels on Sunday, August 30, 2026, to clear the air following widespread public concern triggered by the fraudulent post.
”OPay is not going on break by September. We’re here, and we’re going nowhere! Always verify before you share. Filter the noise! Follow our official pages for authentic OPay updates.” from Official OPay Public Statement (#OPayIsOkay).
Dr. Maxwell Loko, Vice President of Public and Government Affairs at OPay Digital Services, addressed the situation directly from the company’s operational headquarters in Lagos, urging members of the public to disregard the fabricated message.
OPay remains fully operational with no planned disruptions, temporary suspensions, or operational breaks scheduled for September 1 or beyond.
Customers are advised not to make panic-driven financial decisions or panic-withdraw deposits based on fake announcements circulating on unverified platforms. The company urged users to inspect online posts for formatting red flags, grammatical inconsistencies, and unverified source handles.
Dr. Loko warned that deliberate attempts to spread misinformation targeting financial institutions to induce public panic constitute serious offenses that carry potential legal consequences.
OPay reiterated that all official updates regarding its services will continue to be communicated strictly through its authenticated social media handles, in-app notifications, and verified corporate platforms.
