The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) issued a national security advisory urging citizens to heighten vigilance across the country following intelligence that criminal and terrorist factions may launch opportunistic, isolated attacks.
​The advisory, released from the ONSA headquarters at Sanusi Dantata House in the Central Business District of Abuja that was dated Thursday, August 27, details the threat backdrop and key guidelines for the public.
The key highlights include; Sustained joint operations across the North-East, North-West, and North-Central regions have severely disrupted terrorist networks, neutralizing high-ranking figures such as ISWAP commander Abubakar Mainok (also known as Abu Bilal Al-Minuki).
Authorities caution that remnant elements may attempt isolated strikes to create public panic or signal residual operational capacity.
Increased alertness is recommended nationwide, with specific emphasis on public places, transportation hubs, and major highways in the North-East, North-West, and North-Central zones.
Members of the public are advised to monitor their immediate environments and promptly report unusual movements, suspicious unattended objects, or unrecognized vehicles to security operatives.
State and local government authorities have been directed to bolster grassroots intelligence gathering, coordinate with traditional leaders, and streamline real-time information sharing with federal security forces.
​In the official communication, the National Security Adviser emphasized that security forces remain fully deployed to safeguard lives and property, stressing the critical role of public cooperation.
​”This advisory is issued against the backdrop of sustained operations by Nigerian security agencies across the North-East, North-West, and North-Central regions… Terror groups may seek to carry out isolated acts aimed at creating fear or drawing attention to themselves. Citizens are encouraged to remain alert to unusual or suspicious persons, objects, vehicles, and movements within their environment.” said Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
​ONSA further cautioned the public against disseminating unverified security claims on social media to prevent unnecessary panic. Residents are advised to rely strictly on official updates from security agencies and use established toll-free emergency lines to report suspicious activities.
