Just a day after six people lost their lives in a tragic accident along the Ibeju-Lekki Expressway, another fatal crash occurred on Monday at Idi-Iroko, inward Ogolonto, along Ikorodu Road, claiming one life and injuring several others.

The incident involved a fully loaded commercial Mazda bus (registration number LND 490 SD) attempting to merge from the Agric area when it collided with a speeding articulated truck (plate number EKY 121 YJ).

One of the bus passengers, seated by the doorway, was thrown out by the force of the impact and tragically crushed by the truck’s rear tyres.

Two other passengers—a man and a woman—suffered serious injuries, while others sustained minor injuries, including bruises and scratches, as they scrambled to exit the damaged bus.

Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), said in a statement on Tuesday that LASTMA officers rescued the severely injured victims and transported them via the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) to Ikorodu General Hospital for urgent treatment.

He added that the deceased’s remains were later handed over to his grieving family by officers of the Nigeria Police Force. The rescue operation was supported by personnel from the Owutu Police Division, who provided additional security.

To clear the road and restore the flow of traffic, LASTMA officials removed both the bus and the truck from the scene.

The public is reminded to contact LASTMA in case of any traffic-related emergencies or incidents via its multilingual, toll-free hotline: 080000527862.
