The Ondo Redemption Front has raised the alarm over what it described as worsening insecurity and declining welfare conditions in Ondo State, accusing the current administration of failing to provide effective governance.
In a statement jointly signed by its Chair, Ayodeji Ologun; Co-Chair, Mogbojuri Kayode; and Secretary, Adedotun Ajulo, the group said security across the state has significantly deteriorated, leaving residents in fear.
According to the statement, kidnapping has become rampant, with farmers allegedly unable to access their farmlands safely and travellers living in constant anxiety on major highways. The group also claimed that rural communities are increasingly vulnerable to threats from criminal elements.
“The government’s response has been largely reactive, incoherent, and ineffective, leaving citizens to fend for themselves,” the statement read.
Beyond security concerns, the group painted a grim picture of the state’s healthcare system, describing public hospitals and health centres as shadows of their expected standards. It alleged that medical facilities are inadequate, health personnel are overstretched and demoralised, and essential services remain inaccessible to many residents.
“For a government that speaks of ease and people-centred governance, the reality of healthcare delivery in the state tells a different story,” the group said.
The Ondo Redemption Front further criticised what it termed the poor welfare treatment of workers and citizens, noting that while several states have adjusted salaries following the introduction of a new wage regime, Ondo State is yet to make comparable progress.
It cited the situation at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo as particularly troubling, alleging that some staff members are reportedly earning as low as N18,000 monthly. The group noted that even states that have not fully adopted the N77,000 wage benchmark have reviewed salaries upward from N18,000 to N33,000.
The group called on the state government to urgently address the issues of insecurity, revitalise the health sector, and implement improved welfare packages for workers, warning that continued inaction could further erode public confidence in the administration.
