The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the rescheduling of its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, originally set for October 24, now moved to November 28. This change was revealed by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, who read out the communique issued by the PDP Governors’ Forum at the conclusion of an enlarged meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja.
Governor Mohammed, who chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, explained that after extensive consultations with various organs of the party, it was agreed that postponing the NEC meeting would be a strategic move aimed at allowing the party to focus fully on the upcoming Ondo State gubernatorial election, scheduled for November 16.
The election is seen as a crucial opportunity for the PDP to reclaim the State from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The decision to delay the NEC meeting is also part of a broader strategy to ensure the party enters the Ondo election with maximum unity and strength, which are essential to achieving victory and unseating the APC government in the state.
Governor Mohammed stressed the importance of unity in the party, especially in light of alleged attempts by external forces to create divisions within the PDP.
The communique further urged all party members to refrain from making divisive statements or engaging in activities that could weaken the party’s cohesion.
Such actions, the party leadership warned, would undermine ongoing efforts to strengthen the PDP as the leading opposition force in Nigeria, with an eye on regaining power in 2027 from the ruling APC.
The meeting was attended by key figures within the PDP, including members of the PDP Governors’ Forum, the Board of Trustees, the National Working Committee (NWC), the leadership of the PDP Caucus in the National Assembly, and the Forum of Former Governors of the party.
Their presence underscored the importance of unity and coordination in the party’s preparations for the upcoming electoral contests and broader political ambitions.
