The Ogun State Police Command has arrested six suspected criminals and recovered firearms, generators and mobile phones in separate intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks across the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abeokuta. He said operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit and the Ibafo Division carried out the operations, which targeted suspects involved in illegal possession of firearms, theft, conspiracy and receiving stolen property.
According to Babaseyi, the recovered exhibits included a pump-action rifle, a locally fabricated pistol, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, five generators and nine Android phones suspected to have been stolen.
He explained that one suspect arrested on May 30 for alleged involvement in a generator theft syndicate later led detectives to another suspect accused of receiving stolen property. Police also arrested a motorcyclist alleged to have provided logistical support to the syndicate.
In a separate operation, SWAT operatives arrested another suspect on June 12 for allegedly possessing firearms unlawfully and using them to threaten residents of Wasimi and neighbouring communities.
Meanwhile, officers attached to the Ibafo Division uncovered a vehicle parts theft network on June 13 following a complaint from a site at Igbeti Sote Village via Ibafo. The operation led to the arrest of two additional suspects.
Babaseyi said investigations were ongoing and all suspects would be charged to court upon completion. The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and public safety.
