Resident doctors at the Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, Ogun State, have announced their support for the planned nationwide strike by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), scheduled to begin on Monday.
The doctors made their position known on Sunday while addressing journalists in Abeokuta. Speaking on behalf of the association’s chairman, Dr. Chidi Ikwumezie, the Vice Chairman, Dr. Grace Adeniyi, said the decision followed extensive deliberations by members.
According to her, the resolution to join the strike was reached during an Emergency General Meeting of the association, which was held virtually on Sunday, January 4, 2026. She explained that the meeting reviewed the issues raised by the national body of NARD and resolved to align with the directive for industrial action.
Dr. Adeniyi noted that resident doctors at the hospital were united in their demand for the concerns of members to be addressed, stressing that the strike action was not taken lightly but had become necessary.
She added that the doctors remained committed to patient care but urged the relevant authorities to urgently engage with the association to avert a prolonged disruption of medical services.
