In a show of commitment to curbing smuggling and boosting government revenue, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, Idiroko, reported the seizure of 487 illicit items across various locations in the state last year, with a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N4,130,931,100. The disclosure was made by the Area Comptroller, Mr. Olukayode Afeni, during a press conference in Idiroko on Thursday.
He attributed the success to intelligence-driven operations and the dedication of customs officers operating on the ground. Beyond seizures, the command also contributed significantly to federal revenues, generating and remitting a total of N454,672,406.30 to both the federation and non-federation accounts of the federal government.
“This clearly shows that the revenue profile of the command has significantly increased by about 47 per cent compared to the N275,835,602 collected in 2024,” Afeni stated, emphasizing the growing effectiveness of customs operations in the area.
The comptroller noted that these results reflect improved surveillance, strategic enforcement, and operational efficiency, signaling a stronger stance against smuggling while boosting legitimate trade and revenue collection. As the command moves into 2026, Afeni assured stakeholders of continued vigilance, promising sustained efforts to prevent illicit trade and maximize revenue for national development.
