Nigerian rapper and hip hop act Odumodublvck has made a bold claim about his breakout single “Declan Rice,” describing it as the most culturally impactful Nigerian hip hop song in the last two decades. During a talk show with Beat fm, he slammed critics who try to dismiss his style or question his influence, insisting that no Nigerian rap song has come close in terms of global reach or relevance.
“No Nigerian song has had more impact in the world like Declan Rice,” he said, pointing to its viral moment during English footballer Declan Rice’s unveiling by Arsenal. “It is the biggest digital asset in Arsenal Football Club ever, on Twitter, on Instagram,” he added, challenging anyone to name another track with equal resonance. He noted that the track, along with others, had succeeded in English, vernacular, and pidgin, making it deeply versatile and culturally rooted.
Odumodublvck also took aim at gatekeepers, who he says feel “intimidated” by his originality. “You try to sound like Odumodu, they’ll say ‘stop.’ Why?” he asked, criticising what he sees as resistance to his unconventional approach. Dismissing claims that he is absent from the scene. He said such talk is “ungrateful,” warning, “God will punish all of them.”
