A crucial meeting was held in Abuja on Monday as Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State, his predecessor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, and the member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Leke Abejide, deliberated on pressing security and development concerns affecting the state.
The closed-door session, which took place at a high-profile venue in the Federal Capital Territory, was convened against the backdrop of growing insecurity in some parts of Kogi, especially in border communities vulnerable to banditry and kidnapping.
Sources at the meeting disclosed that the leaders reviewed the current security architecture of the state and explored ways of strengthening collaboration between federal and state security agencies. They also discussed ongoing efforts to attract more federal presence and infrastructural development to Kogi.
Governor Ododo was said to have emphasized his administration’s commitment to consolidating on the foundation laid by his predecessor, Yahaya Bello, particularly in security and youth empowerment.
Hon. Abejide, on his part, pledged continued legislative support and advocacy at the National Assembly to ensure Kogi gets its fair share of federal interventions.
Bello, who governed Kogi from 2016 to 2024, expressed confidence in Ododo’s leadership and called for unity among political leaders in the state, irrespective of party affiliation, to secure lives and promote development.
The meeting, according to insiders, also touched on strategies to foster peace among communities, boost agricultural productivity, and create more opportunities for Kogi youths.
While details of the resolutions were not made public, stakeholders see the Abuja parley as a signal of renewed political cooperation among key figures in Kogi, aimed at tackling insecurity and driving the state’s development agenda.
