Presidential if the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, has visited the Nigerian Air Force, NAF, Headquarters in Abuja to honour the personnel and other victims killed in the recent military aircraft crash in Ondo State.
Obi visited the NAF facility on Tuesday, where he signed the condolence register opened in honour of those who lost their lives in the crash.
The NDC presidential candidate disclosed the visit in a post on his official X account, saying it provided him another opportunity to personally identify with the Nigerian Air Force and the bereaved families following the tragedy.
Obi had earlier expressed his condolences after news of the crash emerged.
He used the visit to acknowledge the sacrifices of members of the Armed Forces and other security agencies, who he said routinely put their lives at risk in the course of protecting the country.
According to him, the courage and commitment of security personnel should never be taken for granted.
“The visit gave me another opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made daily by the men and women of our Armed Forces and other security agencies in the line of duty.
“These courageous Nigerians put their lives on the line to defend our nation and protect our people. We must never take their service and sacrifice for granted,” he wrote.
Obi also conveyed his condolences to the Nigerian Air Force as well as the families, colleagues and loved ones of those killed in the crash.
“I extend my deepest condolences to the Nigerian Air Force and to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of those who lost their lives,” he said.
He prayed for the souls of the deceased and for divine strength for their families to cope with the loss.
“May God grant eternal rest to the departed and give their families the strength and fortitude to bear this painful loss,” Obi added.
He equally prayed for the safety of personnel currently serving across the country, saying, “May God continue to protect all those who serve our country.”
The visit came amid continuing tributes to the victims from political leaders, government officials and Nigerians following the fatal aircraft accident.
